Stillstrom strengthens UK presence as offshore charging solutions move toward operational deployment

Stillstrom by Maersk has formally established a UK entity in Aberdeen to support the commercial rollout of its offshore vessel charging solutions. The move enables the electrification of maritime operations within wind farms and builds on seven years of development, testing and collaboration with North Sea shipowners, suppliers, and regulators.

The result is a proven offshore charging system that reduces reliance on fossil fuels, now ready for deployment in one of the world’s most active offshore wind markets.

Since 2019, Stillstrom has been advancing all-electric charging technology for service operations vessels (SOVs), amongst the most energy-intensive ships operating in wind farms. Extensive testing and collaboration with developers and fleet owners in Aberdeen has translated into tangible momentum, with significant discussions underway with major wind farms, as well as partnership and compatibility agreements signed with leading SOV owner-operators.

Graeme Wood joins Stillstrom as its UK Managing Director. He brings more than 40 years’ maritime and engineering experience, including board positions with Rever Offshore (formerly Bibby Offshore), Bibby Hydromap, Bibby Subsea, and Vroon Offshore Services, as well as senior leadership roles at ACE Winches, Aker Qserv, and Technip. Over the past four years, he has supported the development of Stillstrom’s integrated charging systems as a consultant and now leads the company’s commercial rollout in the UK.

The UK is leading the way in offshore wind and maritime decarbonisation. Having a permanent presence in Aberdeen allows us to build on the momentum we've generated in the North Sea, working directly with operators to deliver a commercially viable offshore charging solution that keeps vessels on station longer without relying on fossil fuels. Stillstrom's approach has always been to design a system that fits how offshore wind actually operates, and we are now ready to support the industry at scale.

Graeme Wood, UK Managing Director at Stillstrom

Our offshore charging solutions are now ready for operational deployment. With a focused UK entity, it allows us to strengthen opportunities for our Aberdeen team to work closely with operators, developers and regulators as the offshore wind market expands, ensuring our systems integrate seamlessly into real-world operations.

Graeme has been closely involved in the evolution of our technology from early studies and design through to build, testing, and commissioning, while working with vessel owners to ensure smooth integration. His leadership reflects both the strength of the market opportunity and the importance of supporting customers locally as offshore wind continues to grow in the region.

Last week, Stillstrom was recognised with the Emerging Technology award at the Offshore Achievement Awards, highlighting the company’s transition from development to deployable offshore power solutions and its readiness to support operational vessels across the sector.

About Stillstrom by Maersk

Stillstrom by Maersk is at the forefront of decarbonising the maritime sector with its pioneering offshore power and charging solutions. The company’s mission is to reduce vessel emissions, the largest source of CO₂ in the offshore wind supply chain. Its integrated charging systems enable hybrid and electric vessels to plug into low-emissions electricity while offshore.

Owned by Maersk, the business was founded in 2019 as an innovation project and became an independent company in 2022. The company employs more than 30 people at its headquarters in Copenhagen (Denmark) and Aberdeen (UK).
